Day 479: Buhari attends UN General Assembly,hails paralympic team.

President Muhammadu Buhari will Today, participate in high level meetings on refugees and  migrants issue in the 71st session of UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.Theresa May. President Buhari’s engagements at the session will include the presentation of Nigeria’s statement at the opening of the General Debate of the Assembly. The presentation has “The Sustainable Development Goals: a Universal Push to Transform our World” as its theme. He will also deliver a keynote address on “Taking Climate Action Towards Sustainable Development in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin.” While in New York for the annual gathering of the world leaders, President Buhari will also attend series of meetings, as well as side events which are of significant interest to Nigeria. President Buhari and his U.S. counterpart, President Barack Obama, will meet on Tuesday in New York, on the sidelines of the U.S. leader’s final appearance at the UN General Assembly session.

Buhari hascongratulated the Nigerian Paralympic team for its outstanding performance at the Paralympic games in Rio, Brazil. This was made known on Monday by Garba Shehu, President Muhammadu Buhari Spokesperson. Garba Shehu on his Facebook page said ”President Muhammadu Buhari warmly congratulates Nigeria’s team for an outstanding performance at the Paralympic games in Rio, Brazil. President Buhari joins all sports-loving Nigerians in commending the athletes for doing the country proud by winning 12 medals and setting new records, which made them the top-performing African team at the 2016 games. The President extols the resilient spirit of the Nigerian Paralympic athletes, who were able to excel in the face of adversity. President Buhari applauds the athletes for their tenacity, focus and determination, which has brought glory to the country. The President also extends gratitude to all the officials and trainers of the Paralympic athletes, who made sacrifices and persevered to fly the country’s colours.”
