TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS:

*President Muhammadu Buhari received Martin Luther King Jnr’s family. He was also conferred with the 1st Black History Month National Black Excellence and Exceptional African Leadership Award 2018.

*President Muhammadu Buhari signed two instruments.

*President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated the National Food Security Council at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.

*Vice President Yemi Osinbajo today received the report of the National Economic Council Technical Sub-Committee on the Herdsmen/Farmers crisis. The Sub-Committee, which consists of State Governors, is chaired by the Ebonyi State Governor David Nweze Umahi.

*Vice President Yemi Osinbajo today presided over the first meeting of the Safe School Project Committee of the National Economic Council, NEC. The committee was set up last week by the Council to address issues around safety in public schools around the country. The committee consists of 6 State Governors.

*Minister of Health Isaac Adewole attended the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Governing Board Meeting, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

ALSO:

-The two instruments signed by President Muhammadu Bahari today are:

1. The Instrument of Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Government of the Republic of Singapore for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income and Capital Gains.

2. The Instrument of Ratification of the Memorandum of Understanding among the Government of Nigeria; the Swiss Federal Council and the Int’l Development Association on the Return, Monitoring and Management of Illegally-Acquired Assets Confiscated by Switzerland and to be Restituted to the Fed Rep of Nigeria.

*The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) partnered with the World Health Organisation (WHO) to host a meeting with Lassa fever testing centres across the country, and other stakeholders to review the national testing algorithm and steps for national research.

*The Nigerian Army released a Press Statement on allegations of military collusion with militias/criminals, made by former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma.

*Countdown: 5 days until the end of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS). Visit www.vaids.gov.ng for more information.

*ANNOUNCEMENT: If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Tax Office, do not panic. Ask them to send you a WRITTEN notice. Do not provide any details like your address or bank details. They might be fraudsters.
