President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday opened the ultra-modern Ikeja Bus Terminal in Lagos State and lauded initiatives of the government aimed at catering for the growing population of the state.

The terminal, according to the state, was designed to redefine public transport in line with the bus reform initiative of the government.

The President, who was accompanied to the facility by the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, and other government functionaries, said, “I commend the governor for the strides he recorded within the first three years of governance. I recognise the push of the state in reforming public transport, especially the bus reform project, which will make modern air-conditioned buses available to the people.

“I acknowledge the vision of Lagos State to revamp the railway transport system. Presently, we have outlined the plan for a pan-African railway transport. I commend the state for also developing rail infrastructure.

Earlier, Ambode said the terminal was a proof of the commitment of his administration to reforming public transport infrastructure and management in the state.

He said, “The Ikeja Bus Terminal is one of our flagship transport infrastructure under the Lagos State Bus Reform Initiative. The first phase of this programme will see 13 new bus terminals introduced in Oshodi, Yaba, Ojota, Agege and Tafawa Balewa, among others.”
